Community Gathering with Dr. Joy DeGruy

Internationally renowned speaker, educator and author, Dr. Joy DeGruy, will present “Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome: America’s Legacy of Enduring Injury & Healing,” on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 in the Frauenthal Theater, 7:00 p.m. Dr. DeGruy examines the conditions that led to the Atlantic slave trade and allowed racism and efforts at repression to continue through the present day. She looks at the seemingly insurmountable obstacles African Americans faced as the result of the slave trade, the adaptive behaviors they developed and strategies to promote healing. “Dr. Joy” is an extraordinary speaker who goes way beyond the surface, peeling back the onion to expose what is at the core of racism and its damaging impact on ALL Americans.
Dr. Joy’s presentation will be followed by a book signing.
