Education

Advancing educational attainment through life-long literacy, including science, technology, education, arts, and math (STEAM), as well as financial literacy and educational equity.

  • We are investing in kids by launching KickStart to Career! This program utilizes Children’s Savings Accounts (CSA) as a tool to promote pathways to careers. Starting in the 2018-19 school year, a CSA will provide every kindergartener in Muskegon County schools (public and private) with a $50 savings account. Along the way, students will have a chance to earn incentive deposits, learn about savings and financial education, and families will be encouraged to make deposits of their own.

KickStart to Career is designed to give students a boost in paying for career training or college expenses. More importantly, it helps build the aspirations of children and their families around careers and higher education. We believe that every penny counts toward building dreams and that KickStart to Career will foster hope and opportunity for our kids’ future.

  • Every year, we award over $1 million in new and renewed scholarships to students from across Muskegon County. Scholarships – created by many generous donors – are awarded to support students attending college well as vocational/technical certification programs. By making higher education more accessible for hundreds of area students, we create hope and opportunity for our youth and help strengthen the future of our community. Learn more about our scholarship program here.

  • Muskegon PromiseThe Muskegon Area Promise offers two years of free tuition to Muskegon Community College or Baker College for all eligible graduating seniors in Muskegon County. The infrastructure and funding needed to make this promise was created by a dedicated coalition led by the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District, and made up of community, school and college leaders, area businesses, donors, and the Foundation. We made a major gift to the Muskegon Area Promise and we continue to serve on the Promise Zone Authority Board.
