The Perfect Birthday Gift

As her father’s 80th birthday approached, Shirley Bloomfield wondered, “What can I get a man who has everything he needs?” Shirley continued, “So instead of another golf shirt, I started thinking about the things that were important to him and that was his passion for volunteering and giving back.”

“Given Dad’s love of the community, imagine my delight when I discovered that the Community Foundation for Muskegon County had such an easy way to set up a fund for my parents to support projects in their own backyard!”

Shirley created a Donor Advised Fund for her parents – David and Barbara Bloomfield – to celebrate her father’s birthday. “I was even more excited when my parents loved the idea, doubled my original contribution, and started making grants right away.”
